What is a compound medication?

100 years ago medications provided by pharmacies, including in Utah, were compounded which means the drugs were specifically mixed and prepared for you, based on a prescription from your doctor. But after WW2, everything was industrialized for a one-size-fits-all approach to medications from your pharmacy.

While this made it easier for FDA approval and mass production, we lost the personalization of medication based on the patient’s individual needs.

Getting back to this compounding medication approach is so important because it means that a medication or supplement can be customized to fit your unique symptoms and needs, whether that’s making the medication easier to take or more convenient to use.
