HRT: Where We’ve Been, Where We’re Going
This lesson explores the evolving conversation around hormone replacement therapy, why it has been misunderstood for decades, and how newer research is reshaping the way providers think about menopause care. Presented by Ranel A. Larsen PCCA Clinical Compounding Pharmacist, you’ll review key terminology like bioidentical hormones, synthetic hormones, progesterone, progestins, estradiol, testosterone, and conjugated estrogens; revisit the impact of the Women’s Health Initiative study; and look at how timing, dosage, route of administration, and hormone formulation can change the risk-benefit picture. The lesson also introduces common perimenopausal and menopausal symptoms, including hot flashes, cycle changes, decreased libido, and genitourinary syndrome of menopause, while highlighting the role compounded therapies may play in individualized patient care.
